The Future of Coexistence in the European Union

More about the research objective

Since the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the European Union has moved towards federalism as a result of the transformation of the European Union. At the same time, however, we are currently in an intermediate state where national and EU processes are in conflict. Our region has reservations about bringing together national communities with different objectives into a single state, and peaceful coexistence rather than federalism seems preferable.
The aim of the research is to examine how individual Member States, and in particular individual institutions, work (and can work) to achieve co-existence and what processes and institutions may need to be rethought (e.g. redefining EU and Member State competences).
