Dr. Márta Benyusz, a researcher at the Central European Academy of the University of Miskolc, head of the Institute for Children’s Rights and Family Law, and European regional advisor to the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, recently attended an audience with the Commission at the Vatican, during which she met with Pope Leo XIV.
The audience focused on issues related to the protection of minors and vulnerable persons, with particular emphasis on strengthening prevention, accountability, and a victim-centered approach. The Holy Father emphasized that the protection of children is a fundamental part of the Church’s mission, and that every step forward in this area serves the credibility of the Gospel.
The Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors is a key advisory body of the Holy See, working to develop professional guidelines for the protection of children and vulnerable persons, as well as to improve prevention and training systems worldwide. Its work contributes to ensuring that child protection is implemented in a consistent, high-quality, and responsible manner in both Church and societal practice.
As a regional advisor, Dr. Márta Benyusz brings the experiences and challenges of the Central and Eastern European region to this international professional work, promoting the sharing of best practices and the dissemination of effective child protection solutions.
