On 17-18 February 2025, the first year PhD students of the Central European Academy had the honour to attend a lecture by Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Gerhard Dannecker from the University of Heidelberg, renowned for its long history.
The first day of his two-day lecture was dedicated to an analysis of constitutional law and human rights, with a special focus on the dominant role of the German Constitutional Court in the continental legal system, the Constitutional Court decision on assisted suicide and finally the need for cooperation in the field of environmental criminal law in cross-border cases.
On the second day of the programme, students had the opportunity to learn about the complexities of compliance, through practical examples, which will certainly be of great importance in the field of EU legislation in the years to come. The students were able to gain an overview of both EU and US legislative approaches, which will help them to gain a deeper understanding of recent EU trends.
