This year, the Criminal Procedure Scientific Circle, together with the Faculty of Law and Administration at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, held the Oxford Debate for the fifth time, entitled: “Accountability of Constitutional State Bodies in the Context of the Rule of Law Crisis.” The event took place on December 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the UKSW Auditorium Maximum (Kazimierza Wóycickiego Street 1/3).

The debate aimed to review the mechanisms of state accountability in light of contemporary challenges to the rule of law, both domestically and internationally. Participants sought to explore how various forms of oversight and accountability functioned in practice, and what role they played in upholding the norms of a constitutional state.

Two topics will be of particular relevance:
– Domestic Accountability – Constitutional, Political, and Criminal Dimensions,
– External Accountability – European and International Dimensions.

Two teams participated in the Oxford Debate:
– a team from Poland,
– a team from Central Europe.

The event was aimed at practitioners, academics, PhD students, and anyone interested in the Oxford Debate format and issues related to the rule of law.

The debate was initiated by Dr. Marcin Wielc, professor at UKSW, and was organized within the Polish–Hungarian Professors’ Network under the coordination of the Central European Academy in Budapest.

The event took place within the framework of the Polish–Hungarian Professors’ Network, with the University of Miskolc – Central European Academy participating as a co-organizer.

*The event is private and by invitation only.
