This May, the CEA will be hosting its second Slovak Cultural Evening - a night dedicated to celebrating Slovakia, the land of castles, mountains, and a language full of letters that look like they came from an advanced encryption system.

Slovakia may not be the biggest country in the world, but it certainly knows how to make an impression. From the towering peaks of the High Tatras to its medieval towns and mysterious caves, this little gem in the heart of Europe has plenty to offer, besides a language that looks intimidating but sounds surprisingly melodic (once you stop tripping over the č, š, and ž). It is also home to some legendary figures like Peter Sagan, who makes cycling look effortless. Not to mention inventors like Jozef Murgaš, who helped develop wireless communication, and Štefan Banič, who came up with an early parachute (because who does not love jumping out of planes for science?).

But this evening is not just about facts you can find on Wikipedia. We will also take a closer look at Slovakia’s legal system, meet some of its most important legal minds, and try to answer the age-old question: why does Slovak have so many diacritics, and does anyone pronounce all the letters in “štvrť” correctly? There will be music, lively discussions, and maybe even a surprise or two - so if you have an invitation, don’t miss it!

*The event is private and by invitation only.
