Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) – Status de lege lata and postulates de lege ferenda is the title of an international scientific conference organized by the Central European Academy as part of the research project entitled "The Regulation and Legal Practice of Assisted Reproductive Technologies and the Best Interests of the Child".
A team of international experts will engage in a scholarly discussion primarily focused on the normative regulations in force across various Central European countries. Additionally, the conference will explore the axiological foundations of ART application, perspectives from both universal and regional international law, as well as the doctrinal positions of selected churches and religious organizations.
The rationale for debating these issues stems, among other factors, from legal uncertainties arising from advances in medical science and the use of modern reproductive technologies, particularly in addressing demographic challenges. As indicated by the conference title, the speakers will not only analyze the current legal framework (status de lege lata) but also formulate de lege ferenda proposals aimed at resolving numerous legal and ethical dilemmas related to the application of ART.
