Educational-professional training for university students, experts, and for others interested

In 2021, until the beginning of May, a special subject was taught to students of the Erasmus+ exchange program from the Faculty of Law of the University of Naples (Università di Napoli, Facoltà di giurisprudenza).

The course was led by doc. Damián Němec, dr.

The content of the course was a comparison of individual areas of confessional law in Italy and the Czech Republic with an emphasis on the protection of human rights, especially religious freedom. Special attention was paid to the issue of religious symbols – in this area, Italian and Czech legislation and jurisprudence differ significantly.

The course was attended by five students of the exchange program. The lessons were conducted partly in Italian, partly in English (especially with the use of translations of Czech legal texts and in the discussion about them). The course required the active participation of students. They gradually introduced Italian legislation and jurisprudence in individual topics, taking into account the law of the European Union and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights (usually two students worked on one topic). The teacher always spoke about Czech national legislation and jurisprudence, while also introducing important points of legal development since the 18th century, especially the situation during the communist regime in Czechoslovakia in 1948–1989 and the process of democratization since 1990.

The course took place within the international project “Freedom of conscience and religion in Europe” realised during 2021. The project coordinator is the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law based in Budapest (Hungary).
