János Ede Szilágyi has been responsible for the strategic management of the Central European Academy of the University of Miskolc (CEA UM) since the year of its establishment, and he also played a key role in founding the Academy. In addition to his position at CEA UM, he is a head of department professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc, where his research focuses on environmental protection and the legal regulation of natural resources.

János Ede Szilágyi completed his legal studies at the University of Miskolc, where he also obtained his PhD degree and habilitation. His professional experience has been closely tied to the University of Miskolc since the beginning of his academic career. In addition, between 2019 and 2024, he served as Director of the Budapest-based public research institute, the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law. He is a founding professor of the Central European Professors’ Network and the Central European Junior Programme, as well as a co-founder of the CEA Publishing publishing house. He is also the head of the Central European Comparative Law PhD programme of the Doctoral School of the University of Miskolc.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of several journals and book series, including Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Law, Central European Journal of Comparative Law, Law, Identity and Values, Studies of the Central European Professors' Network, Legal Studies on Central Europe, Legal Heritage. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Public Law Organization, the Hungarian Deputy Delegate of the Comité Européen de Droit Rural and the President of the International Scientific Advisory Body of the Central European Association for Comparative Law.
