Dr Padraig Walsh was the Chief Executive of the Irish national quality assurance and qualifications agency, Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) from its establishment in 2012 until his retirement in March 2025.
Padraig studied Chemical Engineering at University College Dublin and the University of Missouri (USA) and lectured at Dublin City University (DCU) from 1984 until his appointment as Director of Quality in DCU in 2001. In 2005, he became Chief Executive of the Irish Universities Quality Board which merged with three other agencies to become QQI in 2012.
Padraig served on the board of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) from 2010-17 and was the elected ENQA President from 2013-17. He also served on governance committees of quality assurance bodies in Portugal, Scotland, Switzerland and the United States.
He is currently a member of the Education and Training Committee of the Irish Legal Services Regulatory Authority, Chair of the ENQA Appeals and Complaints Committee and is a member of governance bodies of quality assurance agencies in Hungary and Iceland.
