"I am grateful for all the lectures and opportunities to grow professionally"

Introduction

My name is Matteo Vrban, I come from Croatia where I graduated from the Law University in Osijek and continued my proffessional path as a lawyer in couple of big companies dealing with company and commercial law. In 2025 I moved to Budapest to start my PhD journey with CEA and University of Miskolc.

How was the application process?

The application process was quick and simple due to the tremendous help from CEA staff.

How did the move go?

The move went pretty smoothly as senior colleagues from the CEA helped me with all the relevant information.

Where do you see yourself in a few years, and how does the CEA UM help you on that path?

After I finish my PhD journey I hope to work in the dynamic world of academia and it is my firm belief that experience, professional networkorking and all lessons adopted through the work of CEA wilh help me with that goal.

Was there anything you worried about before you came?

I had no real worries since I was assured regarding every unknown fact from the senior colleagues.

What is everyday life like at the academy?

It’s amazing, it offers perfect conditions to develop both professionaly and on a personal level.

How much does the CEA UM support you professionally?

I think the CEA does its very best to offer it’s students the best possibilities to develop their academic career through numerous events, lectures, trips and many other opportunities to learn and grow as a proffesional.

How can you also do research?

Our daily obligations are really flexible and it offers the students more than enough time to concentrate on their research.

What is it like to live in Budapest?

It is wonderful, Budapest is one of the richest cities in Europe in terms of culture, heritage and history. It is both aesthetically pleasing and full of opportunities to spend quality time outside the office.

Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

It’s too soon to say at this point as I am still at the begining of my PhD research but I am sure that currently I am at the best possible place to push me to my future goals and dreams!

Who would you recommend the CEA UM programme to?

I would recommend this program to anyone willing to be brave and curious to explore the international environment in their quest for academic excellence.

Isn’t it a disadvantage that the Academy is so young?

Not at all, on the contrary, I think it’s actually an advantage since it has a chance to develop in the best way from and to choose its path.

What has been your best experience so far at the CEA UM?

It’s two things actually; the people and the professional opportunities as I am grateful for all the lectures and opportunities to grow professionally, but I also met wonderful people here and made not only work connections but also friends for life.

What message do you have for future juniors?
