European Legal Values: Legal Values Through the Lens of Young Researchers is an international scientific conference organized by the Central European Academy of the University of Miskolc within the framework of the European Legal Values research project conducted by the St. Hedwig Research Group. The conference is dedicated to the next generation of legal scholars. Doctoral candidates and early-career researchers will present their research on the role of values in contemporary legal systems, exploring issues that span criminal procedure and the rule of law, the constitutional status of children, restorative justice, the classification of parliamentary chambers, as well as the challenges posed by disinformation, freedom of expression, and university autonomy. The conference aims to demonstrate how the axiological foundations of law continue to inspire and shape contemporary legal scholarship. By engaging with both classical and emerging legal questions, young researchers will show how the tradition of value-oriented legal thinking is being reinterpreted, critically examined, and further developed in response to the challenges facing modern legal orders. The rationale for this discussion stems from the growing importance of values in addressing complex legal, social, and political developments across Europe. The conference therefore provides a forum for presenting innovative research that connects doctrinal analysis with broader questions about the normative foundations of law, democracy, and public institutions. The individual perspectives emerging from the presentations will subsequently be brought together during the concluding roundtable discussion devoted to the contribution of young researchers to the European legal-values debate. This discussion will provide an opportunity to identify common themes, compare methodological approaches, and reflect on the distinctive insights that emerging scholars bring to contemporary discussions on legal values and the future development of European legal thought.
