Introduction
Dr. Judit Varga contributes to the scientific and professional activities of the Central European Academy of the University of Miskolc (hereinafter: Academy) as a senior mentor. As part of her mentoring and professional guidance duties, she contributes to strengthening Central European legal cooperation, improving the professional standards of research programs, and promoting the practice-oriented development of young researchers and legal professionals.
In her work, she pays particular attention to sharing international and European Union legal experiences, comparing the functioning of judicial systems, and incorporating practical legal and governmental experiences into the Academy’s scientific work.
As part of her duties, she cooperates with the Academy’s staff and with the professional participants of the Central European Professors Network and the Central European Junior Program.

From 2019 to 2023, Dr. Judit Varga was the Minister of Justice of Hungary.
Prior to this position, she served as Minister of State for EU Relations at the Prime Minister’s Office from 2018 to 2019.
From May 2022 to February 2024, she served as a member of the National Assembly, during which time she also held the position of Chairman of the National Assembly’s European Affairs Committee from August 2022.
From 2009 to 2018, she worked as a political advisor to Members of the European Parliament in Brussels, gaining first-hand experience of European legislative processes and institutional operations. She began her legal career at international law firms and as a court clerk in Budapest (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Hogan & Hartson, Budapest Regional Court and Central District Court of Pest), where she gained extensive practical legal experience.
Dr. Judit Varga completed her university studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc, where she graduated summa cum laude. In 2009, she passed her Hungarian bar exam with excellent grades. During her academic years, she also studied in Germany on an Erasmus scholarship and later participated in the European University Institute’s (EUI) summer training on energy law.

She can speak several foreign languages fluently i.e., English, German, French and Spanish. She has used them on a daily basis in her professional career when she has worked in an international legal and diplomatic environment. She is a native of Miskolc and is dedicated to the city’s growth and the advancement of its university. She is divorced. She is also a happy mother of three children.
