"Academy is well organized and provides everything needed for a legal researcher to successfully manage his or her tasks"

Introduction

My name is Bruno Boban, and I come from Split, Croatia, where I graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Split. Before moving to Budapest and joining CEA UM, I worked as an intern at a law firm.

How was the application process?

Application process was smooth, clear and well organized by all the parties from Academy. I also appreciate the help and advice from the colleagues who were enrolled in the Academy before I got here, especially during the interviews.

How did the move go?

Since I like and enjoy changing environments and meeting new cultures and people, especially regarding the move to a city with such a remarkable history and importance as Budapest is – move was smooth and relaxed for me, making the process easy and enjoyable regarding the adaptation.

Where do you see yourself in a few years, and how does the CEA UM help you on that path?

I don’t like to think, especially to talk about where I see myself in the future because life often sends us in different directions than what we planned. Having said that, I hope that I will successfully finish this program I’m enrolled in the Academy and be ready for the next step in my career, wether that is back to working in the judiciary in the law office, foreign affairs, international organization or a academic community.

Was there anything you worried about before you came?

No.

What is everyday life like at the academy?

Academy is well organized and provides everything needed for a legal researcher to successfully manage his or her tasks. Even more than that. But most importantly, like in every workplace and community, people who are working here are the ones who are making difference with making this as a nice experience and enjoyable working environment.

How much does the CEA UM support you professionally?

Very supportive with providing all the things we may need, valuable lessons and advice from different relevant colleagues in the legal field.

How do you have time for research as well?

With a right and precise time management there is a time for everything.

What is it like to live in Budapest?

Budapest is a nice and beautiful city. There is a reason why is it called “Queen of Danube”, as every big and important city in the world, it provides a young person everything he or she can imagine. From historic sights to explore, sport centers for activities to vibrant and fun clubs for Saturday nights!

How do you see the grant financially?

More than enough for a living here.

Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

As I mentioned before, it is hard to say as this is my first year out of four here, but hopefully in a multi-cultural environment, working in a international organization or a similar legal entity which is involved in answering a then current legal and/or geopolitical questions and affairs.

Is it a disadvantage that the Academy is still so young?

Not necessarily, of course experience can be useful and helpful sometimes, but on the other hand as a young and relatively new institution, Academy can set the right cornerstone and point the work in the right direction, based on the knowledge and experience from other, “older” institutions and in that way correct their eventual ‘mistakes’ and replace them with a new approaches.

Mi volt eddig a legjobb élményed az ME KEA-nál?

People.

What message do you have for future juniors?

I am not yet old enough to give valuable advice to young juniors, as I am one of them myself, but I will paraphrase a famous quote and the closing line of a speech that I really like, spoken by a very creative and remarkable person who left a great mark on this world: “Stay hungry, stay foolish!”
