Despite the recent opening of accession negotiations with several candidate countries, the enlargement process has been largely stagnant over the past decade. The EU wants to give it a \"new impetus\". Among other initiatives, it has introduced the concept of \"gradual integration\" of perspective members. The conference discussed and analysed this initiative as well as other possible approaches to future enlargement.
