About
János Ede Szilágyi has been at the strategic helm of the Central European Academy (CEA) since the year of its creation, and has played a cardinal role in its establishment. In addition to his position at the CEA, he is also a Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Miskolc, where his research interests are related to the legal regulation of the environment and natural resources.
János Ede Szilágyi studied law at the University of Miskolc, where he obtained his PhD and habilitation. His work experience has also been with the University of Miskolc since the beginning of his professional career. In addition, between 2019 and 2024, he was Director of the Ferenc Mádl Institute for Comparative Law, a public research institute based in Budapest. He is a founding professor of the Central European Professors’ Network and the Central European Junior Programme, and co-founder of CEA Publishing. He is the responsible head of the so-called Central European Comparative Law PhD programme at the Doctoral School of the University of Miskolc.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of several journals and book series, including Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Law, Central European Journal of Comparative Law, Law, Identity and Values, Studies of the Central European Professors’ Network, Legal Studies on Central Europe, Legal Heritage. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), the Hungarian Deputy Delegate of the Comité Européen de Droit Rural (CEDR) and the President of the International Scientific Advisory Body of the Central European Association for Comparative Law (CEACLAW).

He was the head and member of the research group `Constitutional protection of the environment and future generations´ in the Central European Professors’ Network 2022.
He is the head in the Central European Comparative Law PhD programme at the Ferenc Deák Doctoral School of Law of the University of Miskolc. He is PhD supervisor in the `Central European Comparative Law´ PhD programme at the Ferenc Deák Doctoral School of Law of the University of Miskolc.
