About

Miha ŠEPEC is an Associate Professor and Head of the Institute for Criminal Law and Minor Offences at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Law. He at Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana in 2010. He earned his doctoral degree at Faculty of Law, University of Maribor in 2015 (topic: cybercrime). He is the sole editor of the Commentary on the General Part of the Slovene Criminal Code, released in 2021 and the sole editor of the Commentary of the Criminal Procedural Act, released in 2022. He has coordinated the project “European Investigation Order – legal analysis and practical dilemmas of international cooperation – EIO-LAPD” which was funded by the European Commission’s JUST programme. He is coordinating an international bilateral project on digitalisation in criminal law with the University of Göttingen (Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Kai Ambos and Prof. Dr. Alexander Heinze, LL. M. (TCD)) and has cooperated in a number of international and national projects in the past, for example: “Whistleblowing open data impact. An implementation and impact assessment – WOODIe” (ISF Police Action Grant, coordinated by University of Torino) and “LIVE_FOR – Criminal Justice Access to Digital Evidences in the Cloud – LIVE_FORensics” (EU DG Justice, coordinated by Jožef Štefan Institute). He is also a co-author of the Great Scientific Commentary on the Special Part of the Slovene Criminal Code from 2018 and a co-author of the Commentary of the Slovenian Constitution. He has published more than two hundred contributions on criminal law, criminal procedural law and cybercrime. He was voted amongst top ten most influential lawyers in Slovenia from 2018 to 2023 and is regularly lecturing at events organised by the Slovene Public Prosecutor’s Office, Police as well as the Judiciary.
